About Hotpoint
Hotpoint got its start over 100 years ago. During the early 20th century, George A. Hughes began experimenting with what is now known as the first electric range. It was a simple heating element, but after a few years of trial and error, the appliance was made better and better, and it revolutionized the way we cook foods. Meanwhile, Earl Richardson developed what is now known as the first electric iron. His invention was eventually named “Hotpoint.” In 1918, the two men joined forces and merged with GE, creating the Hotpoint brand of home appliances.
